Commander: Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons deck is a grindy -1/-1 counter control-combo build that leverages Hapatra's combat trigger and her snake-generating second ability to create a relentless board of deathtouch tokens. The primary plan involves spreading -1/-1 counters via creatures, spells, and abilities, then converting those counters into card advantage, drain, and recursion. The deck wins through incremental drain effects (Blood Artist, Bastion of Remembrance, Grave Venerations, Syr Konrad, the Grim), a massive infect swing with Triumph of the Hordes, or by grinding opponents out with value engines like Yawgmoth, Thran Physician and persistent recursion. There are no fast infinite combos; rather, the deck aims to establish a loop of sacrifice, -1/-1 counter generation, and token production that overwhelms the table over several turns. The commander is essential for accelerating the token engine but the deck has enough redundancy to still operate if Hapatra is repeatedly answered.
