Deck overview

This deck is a specialized Mono-Blue Combo-Control archetype built around Baral, Chief of Compliance and 35 copies of Sphinx's Approach. The primary game plan uses Baral's cost reduction and looting triggers to rapidly stock the graveyard with four copies of Sphinx's Approach. On Turn 5, casting another Sphinx's Approach allows you to exile five copies and tutor Sphinx of the Chimes directly onto the battlefield. Once in play, Sphinx of the Chimes discards pairs of Sphinx's Approach without mana costs, repeatedly drawing four cards until you hold your entire library. You then cast Thassa's Oracle for two blue mana to win the game immediately on the same turn. The deck is heavily insulated on the stack by elite countermagic like Force of Will, Fierce Guardianship, and Mana Drain. However, it completely lacks bounce spells or permanent removal, making it vulnerable to resolved stax pieces such as Torpor Orb or graveyard exile.
