Deck overview

This mono-black deck runs a dedicated Shadowborn Apostle engine designed to tutor high-impact Demons directly onto the battlefield. With 24 copies of Shadowborn Apostle, the deck achieves high operational consistency, deploying multiple 1-drop creatures across the first three turns. On Turn 4, the deck sacrifices six Apostles to search for an appropriate Demon from its toolbox. Key targets include Archfiend of Depravity for board control, Harvester of Souls for massive card advantage, or Archfiend of Despair and Bloodletter of Aclazotz to double damage and life loss. Once the graveyard fills with sacrificed Apostles, mass reanimation spells like Patriarch's Bidding, Living Death, and Echoing Return rebuild the board immediately. The commander, Avacyn, Angel of Horror, serves as an optional late-game value engine that returns all dying nontoken creatures at the end step, though the core deck functions with complete autonomy.
