Deck overview

This deck is a high-synergy Simic Merfolk kindred strategy commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The primary game plan curves out early Merfolk creatures to establish board presence, deploying Hakbal on turn 4 to activate mass explore triggers every combat step. This engine rapidly filters the library, places +1/+1 counters on attacking creatures, and accelerates lands directly into play. The deck scales aggressively with counter enhancers like Branching Evolution and kindred lords like Master of the Pearl Trident. Combat damage is converted into guaranteed finishes using unblockability from Herald of Secret Streams, one-sided bounce spells such as Raise the Palisade and Cyclonic Rift, or lethal trampling power via Overwhelming Stampede. A robust interaction suite of counterspells, ability counters via Tishana's Tidebinder, and phasing protection through Ripples of Potential safeguards the board against sweepers while closing the game on turn 7.
