Deck overview

The Serpent Society leads a Golgari midrange strategy centered on deathtouch combat attrition, -1/-1 counter distribution, and Elf token scaling. The commander establishes an asymmetric board tax: opponents gain five poison counters if they target it, and whenever any of your deathtouch creatures die, each opponent must sacrifice a nontoken creature. This forces opponents into unfavorable combat trades while you develop mana dorks and utility creatures. Sub-engines like Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons, High Perfect Morcant, and Massacre Girl, Known Killer systematically shrink and eliminate opposing creatures with -1/-1 counters. Win conditions include poison acceleration from Fynn, the Fangbearer, wide token overrun via Lathril, Blade of the Elves or Elvish Warmaster, and an infinite death loop between Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons and Blowfly Infestation paired with drain outlets. While vulnerable to mass exile sweepers and lacking unconditional tutors, the deck excels at locking down creature-reliant pods through persistent attrition.
