Deck overview

This Esper control deck is led by Y'shtola, Night's Blessed, blending spellslinger mechanics with life drain attrition and pillowfort defense. The primary strategy focuses on deploying low-cost mana rocks into Y'shtola on Turn 3 or 4, then stabilizing the battlefield with premium removal and defensive enchantments like Ghostly Prison and Authority of the Consuls. Every noncreature spell with mana value 3 or greater drains 2 life from each opponent and gains 2 life, quickly meeting Y'shtola's threshold to draw extra cards during end steps. In the mid-to-late game, engines such as Bolas's Citadel, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, and Sanguine Bond amplify this drain output. The deck controls the stack and board with format-staple interaction including Force of Will, Deadly Rollick, and Void Rend, surviving opposing pushes before closing out the game with massive life swings or a large Exsanguinate.
