Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black Rat typal aggro deck commanded by Karumonix, the Rat King. The strategy focuses on deploying cheap, evasive Rats in the opening turns, casting Karumonix to replenish the hand and give all Rats toxic 1, and overwhelming opponents with poison counters and combat damage. Secondary win routes leverage token multiplication with Marrow-Gnawer and power buffs from Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm or Banner of Kinship. Proliferate engines like Contagion Engine and Karn's Bastion ensure poison counters continue to increase even when combat is contested. Card advantage is maintained through Karumonix's enter-the-battlefield trigger, Skullclamp, and sacrifice spells like Plumb the Forbidden. Asymmetric board wipes such as Crippling Fear and Kindred Dominance clear opposing boards while keeping the Rat army intact. Although vulnerable to mass creature removal and lacking stack interaction, the deck recovers quickly through strong typal recursion.
