Format: Commander

Commander: Hakbal of the Surging Soul

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

Simic Merfolk tribal built around Hakbal's explore trigger. The primary plan is to curve cheap Merfolk into anthem lords, grow +1/+1 counters through repeated explores, and finish with an unblockable wide combat swing. Secondary paths include token generation from Deeproot Waters and Deeproot Pilgrimage, plus card-advantage engines like Svyelun, Seafloor Oracle, and Kumena to keep the board full. Hakbal is the acceleration and card-selection engine, not a combo piece; there is no hidden commander. The deck can play without him, but is slower. It has no infinite combo, so wins come from layering lords and counters until 40 damage can be assigned to each opponent.
