Deck overview

This mono-black control deck harnesses big-mana acceleration to deploy high-impact attrition threats, headlined by Valgavoth, Terror Eater. The early game focuses on establishing lands, deploying mana reducers like Jet Medallion, and developing mana doublers such as Crypt Ghast, Cabal Coffers, and Lake of the Dead. Opponent development is kept in check through an array of edicts, sweepers, and attrition permanents like Archfiend of Depravity, Oppression, and Grave Pact. On Turn 6, the deck reaches 9 mana to cast Valgavoth, whose oppressive Ward ability deters spot removal while exiling all opposing cards destined for the graveyard. Valgavoth then weaponizes those stolen cards using your life total, supported by lifelink to offset the cost. Alternate win conditions include Bolas's Citadel churn, Gray Merchant of Asphodel devotion drains, and damage amplification from Bloodletter of Aclazotz. The deck closes games around Turn 9 through combat and massive life drain.
