Deck overview

This mono-black deck operates as an aristocrats control engine centered on Avacyn, Angel of Horror. The early game focuses on developing mana velocity through efficient mana rocks, rituals, and big-mana amplifiers like Cabal Coffers, Crypt Ghast, and Caged Sun. Mid-game turns establish board control using asymmetric edict creatures such as Accursed Marauder and Priest of Forgotten Gods alongside card engines like Yawgmoth, Thran Physician and Braids, Arisen Nightmare. Once Avacyn, Angel of Horror enters the battlefield alongside a free sacrifice outlet, the deck establishes an overwhelming recursive loop: sacrificing high-impact nontoken creatures like Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Kokusho, the Evening Star, or Archon of Cruelty returns them at the beginning of each player's end step. This drains entire tables across a single rotation while stripping opposing boards of creatures. The deck thrives on continuous attrition, deep card advantage, and massive life swings, closing games through lethal life drain and evasive combat damage.
