Format: Commander

Commander: The Ur-Dragon

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

The Ur-Dragon leads a five-color Dragon-tribal deck whose true engine is Eminence: every Dragon in the 99 effectively costs one less from the opening hand, letting 5-7 mana flyers land a full turn early. The deck wins primarily through combat - hasted, evasive Dragons powered by Dragon Tempest, Temur Ascendancy, and Lightning Greaves - and through the Aggravated Assault combo, which converts the attack-triggered mana of Savage Ventmaw, Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient, Goldspan Dragon, or Old Gnawbone into infinite combat steps and a same-turn elimination. Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm and Utvara Hellkite snowball the board, Tiamat acts as a five-card tutor, and Call the Spirit Dragons offers an alternate "counters" victory. The Ur-Dragon's own attack trigger - draw a card per attacking Dragon, then cheat a permanent into play - is powerful but not essential; the list keeps most of its strength even if the commander never resolves.
