Deck overview

This deck is a Golgari aristocrats engine commanded by Grist, the Hunger Tide. Grist operates uniquely as a 1/1 Insect creature in the command zone, allowing it to synergize with creature-centric interactions while functioning on the battlefield as a self-protecting planeswalker. The deck's primary strategy revolves around establishing rapid mana acceleration through 1-mana and 2-mana dorks, deploying Grist early to generate Insect tokens, and self-milling creature cards into the graveyard. A critical mass of death triggers and token multipliers—such as Chatterfang, Squirrel General, Marionette Apprentice, Mirkwood Bats, and Zulaport Cutthroat—turns sacrificial fodder into table-wide life drain. The deck finishes games either through explosive mass reanimation via Living Death and Lich-Knights' Conquest or by chaining sacrifice outlets like Warren Soultrader and Ashnod's Altar. While lacking stack interaction and counterspell defense, its deep graveyard redundancy ensures steady resilience against conventional board wipes.
