Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black Rat tribal swarm strategy commanded by Karumonix, the Rat King. It leverages a dense curve of cheap Rat creatures, turning them into lethal threats by giving the entire tribe toxic 1 while using Karumonix's enter-the-battlefield trigger to replenish hand resources. The deck accelerates through early mana rocks and cost reducers to assemble an aggressive board by Turn 4. Critical onset occurs around Turn 5 when major tribal anchors like Marrow-Gnawer or Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm deploy to grant mass evasion or overwhelming power buffs. Opponents are pressured across two axes: accumulating lethal poison counters and losing life through combat or aristocrat drain effects like Bastion of Remembrance and The Meathook Massacre. While vulnerable to mass sweepers and lacking stack interaction, the deck exhibits strong resilience through commander recasts, mass recursion, and high functional redundancy.
