Deck overview

This mono-blue control and card-advantage deck is commanded by Matoya, Archon Elder, turning every scry and surveil action into pure card draw. The early game focuses on deploying low-cost scry enablers like Sigiled Starfish, Augury Owl, and Aqueous Form to trigger Matoya and rapidly fill the hand. In the mid-game, the deck leverages deep deck selection to dig for high-impact draw payoffs, growing giant threats such as Chasm Skulker, Clinquant Skymage, and Oneirophage while suppressing opposing aggression with Elvish Mariner, Sludge Monster, and Aetherize. The deck defends its board using a dense suite of 11 counterspells, including mana-refunding options like Rewind and Unwind. Games are closed through massive creature damage backed by evasion from Archetype of Imagination or Wonder, direct table-wide life drain from Psychosis Crawler, or alternate victory triggers via Triskaidekaphile and Twenty-Toed Toad. The deck excels at resource generation and stack interaction but relies heavily on keeping its commander and key creatures alive.
