Deck overview

This deck is an aggressive Simic kindred strategy commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The game plan revolves around flooding the battlefield with low-cost Merfolk, triggering mass explore triggers each combat step, and converting those triggers into rapid card advantage, free land ramp, and substantial +1/+1 counters. Early turns focus on establishing a low-curve board presence with cards like Kiora's Follower, Stonybrook Banneret, and Deeproot Elite. Once Hakbal enters the battlefield, the explore mechanic filters draws while placing +1/+1 counters across your entire creature base and accelerating lands into play alongside Nicanzil, Current Conductor. The deck closes out games by granting evasion to its buffed Merfolk through Herald of Secret Streams, Master of the Pearl Trident, or Mist Dancer, executing lethal combat swings across consecutive turns. Defensive protection spells like Heroic Intervention and Ripples of Potential ensure the board survives sweepers, while alternate win conditions like Simic Ascendancy punish passive opponents.
