Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black spellslinger control strategy commanded by Toshiro Umezawa. It operates by keeping the board completely clear of opposing creatures using an extensive suite of low-cost instant-speed removal spells. Whenever an opponent's creature dies, Toshiro triggers to allow casting an instant directly from the graveyard, effectively doubling the value of every removal spell, draw spell, and combat trick. The deck supports this attrition engine with token creators like Sedgemoor Witch and Bitterblossom, alongside card draw engines like Morbid Opportunist and Black Market Connections. Once the table is stabilized and opposing development is suppressed, the deck transitions into its endgame by assembling massive mana reserves with Cabal Coffers, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, and Crypt Ghast. This mana powers lethal game-ending sorceries such as Torment of Hailfire or Exsanguinate, or finishes the table through Massacre Wurm drain triggers.
