Deck overview

Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker serves as the recursion shell for a Shadowborn Apostle demon-tutor deck. The true engine is Shadowborn Apostle: six Apostles can be sacrificed to put a demon directly into play, and Shirei returns every 1-power Apostle at the next end step, making that tutor repeatable each turn. Secondary plans drain opponents with Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, and Bastion of Remembrance, use Grave Pact to strip blockers, and attack with a chain of large demons. The ultimate finish is usually Liliana's Contract once four different Demons are assembled, with Archfiend of Despair as a combat and lifegain-lock finisher. The deck is fast only with early ramp; without Shirei the Apostle engine is one-shot.
