Deck overview

This deck is a retro mono-black midrange build composed entirely of cards from Magic's Eighth Edition, commanded by Ihsan's Shade. Its game plan revolves around playing lands on curve, utilizing 1-for-1 creature removal, and disrupting individual opponents with heavy discard spells like Mind Sludge and Persecute. Once it reaches six mana, it deploys Ihsan's Shade or large secondary creatures like Nightmare and Beast of Burden to chip away at life totals. Due to the lack of modern mana acceleration, tutors, and card draw engines, the deck operates at a deliberate, classic battlecruiser pace. It relies heavily on high-cost sorcery-speed spells like Plague Wind to break board stalls. The strategy struggles against aggressive combo decks and wide board states but offers nostalgic, grindy creature combat within pre-modern and set-restricted casual environments.
