Deck overview

This Esper control deck uses Merieke Ri Berit as a repeatable creature-theft and destruction engine, augmented by multiple untap effects such as Aphetto Alchemist, Puppet Strings, and Thousand-Year Elixir. Supported by pillowfort enchantments like Ghostly Prison and Propaganda, the deck suppresses aggressive strategies while controlling the board through a robust counterspell suite and targeted removal. Secondary win engines including Willbreaker, Sen Triplets, and Hylda of the Icy Crown provide alternative paths to steal or lock down opposing threats. The deck establishes an oppressive creature lock around Turn 5–6, gradually grinding out opponents by turning their own best threats against them in combat. With 38 lands and reliable functional redundancy among untap permanents, the deck maintains steady mid-to-late game board control, though it requires careful management of its mana velocity and protective countermagic to shield its fragile commander.
