Deck overview

This competitive Bant deck leverages Derevi, Empyrial Tactician as both a commander-tax-evading utility engine and a combo outlet. By accelerating with low-cost mana dorks and artifacts on Turn 1, the deck quickly establishes oppressive stax pieces like Winter Orb, Drannith Magistrate, and Collector Ouphe to stifle opposing development. Derevi repeatedly breaks parity under these restrictions by untapping friendly mana sources and tapping down key opposing permanents through combat damage triggers. The deck searches for its win conditions using an extensive tutor suite including Birthing Pod, Eldritch Evolution, and creature search spells. The primary victory condition involves generating infinite mana via flicker loops with Emiel the Blessed or Eldrazi Displacer and Derevi untapping high-yield mana sources like Gaea's Cradle or Bloom Tender. This infinite mana is instantly channeled into Walking Ballista or Finale of Devastation to eliminate all three opponents on the spot under protection like Grand Abolisher, Silence, and free countermagic.
