Deck overview

This Simic Midrange deck pairs Volo, Itinerant Scholar with Master Chef to turn creature type diversity into overwhelming card advantage and board presence. Early turns focus on establishing mana acceleration and casting Volo to generate Volo's Journal. Because the deck features a wide variety of creature types—ranging from Kithkin and Raccoons to Snakes and Halflings—each creature cast logs a new entry into the Journal. Master Chef ensures every subsequent creature enters with +1/+1 counters, steadily growing the board. Volo draws several cards each turn cycle to replenish the hand with threats and countermagic. Once a formidable army is assembled, the deck closes the game on Turns 6 through 8 using unblockable effects from Herald of Secret Streams, mass pump from Overrun, or asymmetric clearing from Wave Goodbye. The deck recovers well from creature wipes due to the hexproof Journal retaining logged types.
