Deck overview

This deck is an Abzan midrange strategy commanded by Betor, Ancestor's Voice, designed to convert life total manipulation into massive creature buffs and continuous graveyard recursion. Early turns deploy cheap lifegain enablers such as Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant, and Guide of Souls, along with painlands and talismans that deliberately cost life. When Betor enters the battlefield, this dual engine triggers every end step to distribute +1/+1 counters equal to life gained while reanimating creatures with mana value up to the life lost that turn. Standalone engines like Archangel of Thune, Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, and Bolas's Citadel provide strong alternative routes to victory. The deck applies strong mid-game pressure through evasive combat and life drain from Gray Merchant of Asphodel, supported by premier spot removal including Swords to Plowshares and Anguished Unmaking.
