Commander: Nethroi, Apex of Death

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Nethroi, Apex of Death leads an Abzan graveyard combo-aggro deck built around an explosive rules interaction. Because power in the graveyard checks printed values, numerous powerful creatures that enter with plus-one-plus-one counters count as zero power toward Nethroi's ten-power mutate limit. The primary game plan fills the graveyard using self-mill and discard, plays an inexpensive non-Human creature, and mutates Nethroi for seven mana. This immediately reanimates a massive army including Kalonian Hydra, Golgari Grave-Troll, and Mogis's Marauder to grant the entire board haste and evasion. Alternatively, Craterhoof Behemoth or Living Death close out the game through overwhelming combat damage or mass reanimation.
