Deck overview

This deck is an Abzan toughness-matters aggressive midrange build commanded by Doran, Besieged by Time. The strategy leverages creatures with disproportionately high toughness and low power to maximize Doran's cost reduction and combat pump triggers. Early ramp deploys Doran on turn 3, followed by resilient, low-mana threats such as Indomitable Ancients and Weathered Sentinels that swing for massive damage on turn 5. The deck breaks parity through asymmetric board wipes like Slaughter the Strong and Dusk // Dawn, which eliminate opposing boards while leaving your high-toughness army untouched. Redundant toughness-to-damage assigners like Assault Formation, Bedrock Tortoise, and Ancient Lumberknot ensure the deck functions smoothly even without the commander. While the deck boasts immense board presence and combat resilience, it lacks stack interaction and relies on combat steps over two opponent response cycles to eliminate the table on turn 7.
