Deck overview

This deck is a competitive Izzet control and combo deck built around Niv-Mizzet, Parun. The primary strategy uses fast mana and early cantrips to establish mana stability, resolve Niv-Mizzet, Parun, and attach a draw-on-damage Aura such as Curiosity, Ophidian Eye, or the creature Tandem Lookout. Because Niv-Mizzet cannot be countered, it resolves through opposing countermagic. Once Niv-Mizzet is enchanted, drawing a single card initiates a continuous chain where Niv-Mizzet deals 1 damage to an opponent, triggering another card draw, and looping through the library to deal lethal damage to the table. The deck features a dense package of free counterspells like Force of Will, Fierce Guardianship, and Deflecting Swat to protect the combo and disrupt opponents. If opponents survive initial pings due to life totals, drawing the entire deck accesses Firestorm to close out the game immediately on Turn 4.
