Deck overview

This deck is an Azorius control and political deck commanded by Sokrates, Athenian Teacher. The game plan revolves around leveraging Sokrates' ability to prevent incoming combat damage and convert it into massive card draw for both the defending player and the attacker. This flood of extra cards fuels a dense suite of draw-scaling creatures, such as Shabraz, the Skyshark, Baxter, Fly in the Ointment, Oneirophage, and Chasm Skulker, which rapidly grow into lethal flying threats. Simultaneously, the deck protects its life total using pillowfort enchantments like Ghostly Prison, Propaganda, and Solitary Confinement, encouraging opponents to battle one another rather than pay attack taxes. When the board matures, the pilot eliminates players with overwhelming evasive combat damage or closes the game through alternate win conditions like Approach of the Second Sun and Triskaidekaphile. The list features robust countermagic and board-protection spells, though it relies heavily on counterspells due to a lack of on-board spot removal.
