Commander: Karumonix, the Rat King

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a focused mono-black Rat tribal deck helmed by Karumonix, the Rat King. The primary game plan is to deploy a swarm of Rats-including eleven copies of Rat Colony-and use the commander's toxic 1 ability to convert every combat step into a poison counter. Proliferate spells (Drown in Ichor, Whisper of the Dross, Blightbelly Rat) and direct poison sources (Ichor Rats, Infectious Inquiry, Phyresis Outbreak, Vraska's Fall) accelerate the poison clock. The deck also has a strong sub-theme of token generation via Marrow-Gnawer and recursion via Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm and Rat King, Verminister. Unblockable effects from equipment (Brotherhood Regalia, Thieves' Tools, Trailblazer's Boots) and lands (Access Tunnel, Rogue's Passage, Secret Tunnel) ensure the Rats connect. The commander acts as a repeatable tutor for Rat creatures, giving the deck strong consistency within its tribe.
