Deck overview

Zaxara, the Exemplary commands a Sultai midrange engine built around scalable {X} spells, +1/+1 counter amplification, and overwhelming combat pressure. In the early game, the deck establishes its mana foundation through efficient ramp artifacts, land search spells, and Zaxara's intrinsic ability to tap for two mana. Once operational on Turn 4, every {X} spell casts double duty, deploying both its primary effect and a scaling Hydra token. Midgame turns leverage counter multipliers like Corpsejack Menace, The Earth Crystal, and Unbound Flourishing to expand board presence exponentially. The deck transitions into critical onset around Turn 6, utilizing trampling behemoths such as Primordial Hydra, Voracious Hydra, and Apex Devastator to dismantle opponent life totals across two combat cycles by Turn 8. Interaction is supported by flexible removal Hydras and counterspells, while Asceticism and Inspiring Call safeguard key assets against board wipes.
