Zaxara Hydra/X spell tribal by user5737458

Format: Commander

Commander: Zaxara, the Exemplary

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a +1/+1 counter and X-spell value engine helmed by Zaxara, the Exemplary. The primary strategy is to accelerate mana through dorks and ramp, deploy Zaxara to generate both mana and free Hydra tokens, then exploit counter doublers - Corpsejack Menace, Branching Evolution, Primal Vigor - to multiply the size and number of its threats. Key payoffs include a direct win via Simic Ascendancy at twenty growth counters, explosive draw from Hydroid Krasis, and the inevitable mana sink Torment of Hailfire to kill the table. Zaxara's activated ability provides coloured mana every turn (and can pay for its own untaps with Pemmin's Aura), making it a repeatable engine rather than just a setup piece. The deck can function without the commander - many Hydras and counter doublers still operate - but the synergy depth drops.
