Deck overview

This deck is a Rakdos Group Slug strategy commanded by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls. The primary game plan revolves around deploying inexpensive passive damage sources such as Roiling Vortex, Razorkin Needlehead, and Underworld Dreams during the early turns, followed by casting Valgavoth on turn 4. Because Valgavoth triggers whenever an opponent loses life for the first time during each of their turns, the deck draws up to three additional cards per turn cycle while rapidly growing Valgavoth into a lethal airborne threat. In the midgame, high-impact taxing enchantments like Manabarbs, Spellshock, and Painful Quandary severely constrain opposing actions by turning routine game actions like tapping lands and casting spells into deadly life loss. Lifelink support from Whip of Erebos and Basilisk Collar breaks parity on symmetrical burn, allowing the pilot to comfortably survive while opponents are simultaneously pressured by unavoidable burn damage and massive commander attacks.
