Deck overview

Mathas, Fiend Seeker leads a Mardu political-control deck built around bounty counters, forced combat, and defensive taxes. The normal plan is to deploy Mathas, mark an opposing creature, and use removal to turn that creature's death into table-wide card flow and life gain. Goad effects such as Kardur, Doomscourge and Disrupt Decorum redirect combat away from the pilot, while Ghostly Prison, Windborn Muse, and Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs make attacks costly. The deck has a solid collection of creature removal and sweepers, plus several combat-protection effects. Its main structural problem is that it converts many opposing deaths into cards for every opponent and lacks a compact route from advantage to victory. Insurrection is the closest thing to a finisher, but it is expensive and depends on the opponents' boards. The deck is therefore a general-power midrange control build with useful interaction, not a reliable combo or lock deck.
