Deck overview

This mono-black deck is an aggressive Rat tribal and Aristocrats combo engine commanded by Marrow-Gnawer. The primary strategy focuses on curving out low-cost Rats in the early turns, casting Marrow-Gnawer on Turn 4 or 5, and leveraging its activated ability to exponentially double the Rat swarm while granting the entire board fear. The deck converts this massive token presence into victory through overwhelming unblockable combat damage with Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm and Valley Rotcaller, draining the table with Aristocrats such as Blood Artist and Bastion of Remembrance, or executing a two-card infinite combo with Thornbite Staff. Defensively, the list maintains board control using asymmetric sacrifice engines in Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos, free interaction like Deadly Rollick, and resilient regeneration via Swarmyard.
