Deck overview

This Golgari deck harnesses Hazel of the Rootbloom to convert small tokens into massive mana acceleration and an overwhelming Squirrel army. The game plan opens with low-cost token creators and ramp pieces, deploying Hazel on Turn 4 to duplicate Squirrels every end step. With a wide board assembled, Hazel taps tokens for substantial mana on Turn 5, funding game-ending threats like Beastmaster Ascension, Deep Forest Hermit, and Mirkwood Bats. The deck wins either by overrunning opponents through wide combat damage or by sacrificing tokens to aristocrat engines like Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat. While the deck lacks universal tutors and countermagic, it compensates with high internal redundancy across token generation, sacrifice outlets, and payoff cards. Opponents must respect the lethal synergy between Chatterfang, Squirrel General and Pitiless Plunderer, which can clear opposing boards and generate infinite mana to secure victory.
