Deck overview

This is a Rakdos "pain-stax" attrition deck helmed by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls. Every opponent's first life loss each turn gives the commander a +1/+1 counter and draws a card, so the entire deck is built around ensuring that trigger fires consistently. The engine pieces are global damage enchantments - Manabarbs, Citadel of Pain, Zo-Zu the Punisher, Ankh of Mishra - and draw-punishers like Razorkin Needlehead, Kederekt Parasite, and Orcish Bowmasters. It grinds the table down with symmetrical pain, taxes casting, drawing, and playing lands, then closes through one of several deterministic life-loss loops: Exquisite Blood combined with any persistent drain, Syr Konrad, the Grim + Mindcrank, or a giant Chandra's Ignition off a pumped Valgavoth. Damage doublers/triplers in Torbran, Thane of Red Fell, Solphim, Mayhem Dominus, and City on Fire accelerate the clock dramatically.
