Hakbal of the Surging Soul by user2146477

Format: Commander

Commander: Hakbal of the Surging Soul

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Hakbal of the Surging Soul is the engine and payoff of this Merfolk exploration deck. The primary plan is to fill the board with cheap Merfolk, use Hakbal's combat explore triggers to grow them while chaining land drops, and finish with unblockable/wave attacks or a Simic Ascendancy counter win. Token producers such as Deeproot Waters and Emperor Mihail II create a wide board, while lords like Merrow Reejerey and Mist Dancer turn it lethal. The commander is the heart of the deck, but secondary engines can carry the plan when he is unavailable. No hidden commander is required; Kumena and Tishana act as alternate engines.
