Deck overview

This Simic Commander deck is commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul, focusing on Merfolk tribal aggro, +1/+1 counters, and unblockable combat pressure. The game plan establishes early board presence with low-cost Merfolk and 1–2 CMC ramp, deploying Hakbal by turn 3 or 4. At the start of combat, Hakbal triggers explore for every Merfolk on your board, simultaneously drawing land cards and growing creatures with +1/+1 counters. Hakbal then accelerates mana by putting lands directly into play when attacking. By turn 5, the deck presents a lethal, wide board state made unblockable through Herald of Secret Streams, Deepchannel Mentor, or Islandwalk enabled by Harbinger of the Seas and lords.
