Deck overview

The deck's strongest plan is the compact Witherbloom Apprentice and Chain of Smog combo. Witherbloom Apprentice is the required creature, while Chain of Smog can be found by several unrestricted tutors. Creature tutors such as Green Sun's Zenith, Chord of Calling, and Finale of Devastation help find the other half. With acceleration from cheap mana creatures, artifact mana, rituals, and lands such as Ancient Tomb, the deck can ordinarily assemble and use the combo around turn 4. Targeting yourself with Chain of Smog lets you choose every copy, and each copy creates another magecraft trigger that drains the table. The deck has respectable removal and some protection, but it lacks enough stack interaction and reliable shielding for a cEDH classification. Its expensive commander and large creature package support a strong backup value plan, but that plan is much slower and less deterministic than the combo.
