Commander: Extus, Oriq Overlord // Awaken the Blood Avatar

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

This Mardu token-sacrifice deck is built around Extus, Oriq Overlord, but the real engine is his sorcery side, Awaken the Blood Avatar. The entire 99 is tuned to create an endless supply of creature tokens, sacrifice them to repeatedly cast Awaken the Blood Avatar at a steep discount, and drain opponents through death-trigger payoffs like Bastion of Remembrance, Purphoros, God of the Forge, and Mirkwood Bats. The commander's magecraft ability provides consistent creature recursion, returning key sacrifice fodder or value pieces from the graveyard to hand. Primary win conditions are incremental: stacking Avatar tokens that deal 3 damage per swing, combined with "blood artist" effects that pelt opponents with loss of life every time a creature dies. Token doublers (Mondrak, Glory Dominus, Teysa Karlov, Drivnod, Carnage Dominus) accelerate the clock, while board control via Dictate of Erebos and Grave Pact ensures opponents can't keep blockers. The deck wins through attrition and repeated Avatar casts rather than a fast combo.
