Deck overview

This deck is a highly synergistic Shadowborn Apostle combo-value engine helmed by Athreos, God of Passage. The primary game plan revolves around sacrificing six Shadowborn Apostle to tutor a high-impact Demon directly onto the battlefield, then leveraging the commander's ability to return dead Apostles to hand for repeat value. The deck can win through combat damage from Demons like Archfiend of Despair and Bloodletter of Aclazotz, drain triggers from Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat, or a storm kill via Tendrils of Agony after chaining many Apostle casts with Thrumming Stone. Necropotence and Skullclamp provide additional card advantage, while Phyrexian Altar fuels mana and sacrifice loops. The strategy is resilient to single-target removal thanks to Athreos, but is soft to grave hate and mass exile.
