Deck overview

This deck is a Mono-Black Aristocrats and Attrition engine built around Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker. The strategy deploys low-cost creatures with power 1 or less that possess disruptive enter-the-battlefield or death triggers, such as Burglar Rat, Virus Beetle, Abyssal Gatekeeper, and Dusk Legion Zealot. Once Shirei and a free sacrifice outlet like Viscera Seer or Ashnod's Altar are in play, you sacrifice these small creatures on every player's turn. Shirei returns them to the battlefield at the beginning of each end step, triggering their abilities up to four times per full turn rotation. This rapidly strips opponents of their hands, clears opposing boards of creatures, and draws extra cards. Life-draining payoffs such as Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, and Syr Konrad, the Grim convert these repetitive sacrifice loops into steady damage to close out the game. The deck's primary constraint is its dependence on Shirei remaining on the battlefield and an extremely lean land base.
