Deck overview

This deck is a high-power Grixis reanimator and storm combo deck led by Kess, Dissident Mage. The primary game plan revolves around rapidly binning high-impact creatures on early turns with cards like Faithless Looting, Careful Study, and Unmarked Grave, then reanimating them on turn 3 using efficient reanimation spells such as Reanimate, Animate Dead, and Exhume. Reanimating Hoarding Broodlord allows the deck to convoke Saw in Half, creating two token copies that tutor Underworld Breach and combo pieces to execute a same-turn win with Brain Freeze and Lotus Petal. Alternatively, the deck can reanimate game-warping stax creatures like Sire of Insanity or Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur, or lock opponents out of resources using Notion Thief alongside Windfall. Kess, Dissident Mage provides recurring value from the command zone, allowing critical spells to be recast from the graveyard to ensure resilience against removal.
