Deck overview

This mono-black deck is helmed by K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth, utilizing his Phyrexian mana conversion ability to cheat mana costs in exchange for life points. The strategy focuses on accelerating K'rrik onto the battlefield by Turn 4, then rapidly deploying card-drawing powerhouses like Vilis, Broker of Blood, Greed, Asmodeus the Archfiend, or Bolas's Citadel. By offsetting aggressive life payments with redundant lifegain engines like Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Aetherflux Reservoir, and extort creatures, the deck stabilizes its life total while draining opponents. While lacking dedicated tutors and fast mana artifacts, it compensates through immense raw card draw and high functional redundancy across its drain outlets. The deck reaches a must-answer board state by Turn 5 and closes the game around Turn 7 via massive Exsanguinate casts, Aetherflux Reservoir lasers, or recurring Gary triggers. Its primary vulnerabilities are heavy reliance on K'rrik's survival, limited stack protection, and exposure to aggressive damage while life totals are low.
