Deck overview

Eluge, the Shoreless Sea leads a mono-blue spellslinger control strategy designed to dominate the tempo of the table through cumulative cost reduction. Eluge places flood counters on lands whenever it enters the battlefield or attacks, discounting your first instant or sorcery each turn by {U} or {1} per counter. Because this discount applies during every opponent's turn, the deck holds up premier countermagic like Counterspell, Foil, and Pact of Negation essentially for free. As flood counters accumulate, basic Island counts power up Eluge into a lethal combat threat. Meanwhile, potent asymmetric stax pieces like Back to Basics exploit greedy opposing mana bases while leaving your mono-blue mana intact. The deck transitions into the late game by digging through its library with Archmage Emeritus and Rhystic Study, clearing boards with Cyclonic Rift or Spectral Deluge, and locking out the table with Hullbreaker Horror or extra turns from Time Stretch.
