Deck overview

This Dimir "monarch theft" deck, helmed by Garland, Royal Kidnapper, aims to become the monarch on casting its commander and then steal each opponent's best creature for as long as they remain the monarch. The deck reinforces this plan with a dense package of goad effects (Bloodthirsty Blade, Ghoulish Impetus, Coercive Impetus, Parasitic Impetus, Kang Dynasty, Renegade Silent, The Master, Mesmerist) to force opponents' creatures to attack away from you, weakens their board, and turns every opponent into a source of both stolen threats and card advantage (via monarch-card draw). Secondary theft comes from Hostage Taker, Mind Flayer, Shield Broker, Volatile Stormdrake, and spells like Treacherous Urge,Spinal Embrace. The deck can also reanimate large threats (Bringer of the Last Gift,Sepulchral Primordial,The Cyber-Controller) to close the game. There is no infinite combo; victory is achieved through combat damage from your own stolen creatures and the +2/+2 boost your stolen creatures get from Garland.
