Deck overview

This deck is an aggressive mono-black typal strategy helmed by Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm. The game plan revolves around rapidly deploying low-cost Rats during the early turns to build critical mass on the battlefield. Once Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm hits play on Turn 4, it turns modest 1/1 rodents into lethal beaters by granting other Rats +X/+X whenever it attacks or blocks, scaling directly with the size of your swarm. Concurrently, Ashcoat provides continuous card advantage by milling cards and recurring fallen Rats back to hand every end step. The deck complements its wide combat strategy with aristocrats reach through Blood Artist, Syr Konrad, the Grim, and Gray Merchant of Asphodel, while packing mass reanimation spells like Patriarch's Bidding and Haunting Voyage to shrug off sweepers. An infinite creature and death trigger combo between Marrow-Gnawer and Thornbite Staff serves as a potent compact win condition when combat stalls.
