Deck overview

This mono-black deck centers on Tergrid, God of Fright, aiming to establish total resource dominance through symmetric discard, sacrifice, and stax effects. By accelerating mana using rocks, rituals, and doublers like Dark Ritual, Sol Ring, and Crypt Ghast, the deck reliably casts Tergrid by Turn 4. Once Tergrid is in play, resolving mass discard or edict spells such as Dark Deal, Pox, Awaken the Erstwhile, or Mindslicer creates an insurmountable advantage. Opponents lose their hands, lands, and creatures while Tergrid puts those permanent cards directly onto your battlefield. The resulting army of stolen permanents and Zombie tokens closes the game through combat over two response cycles. If Tergrid is removed, the deck pivots smoothly into an independent two-card combo featuring Professor Onyx and Chain of Smog, or ramps into an overwhelming Torment of Hailfire. The strategy thrives on systematic attrition, tutor denial via Opposition Agent, and asymmetric stax.
