Format: Commander

Commander: Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This deck is a Rakdos group slug strategy helmed by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls, a demon that turns every opponent life-loss event into a +1/+1 counter and a card draw. The primary plan is to deploy a dense suite of punisher permanents - Mogis, God of Slaughter, Rampaging Ferocidon, Spiteful Visions, Orcish Bowmasters, and others - that chip away at opponents' life totals every turn while feeding Valgavoth's engine. The deck wins by grinding the table down over time, finishing with a massive Torment of Hailfire or the life-doubling effect of Bloodletter of Aclazotz. It also packs a few combo-adjacent synergies like Master of Cruelties setting life to 1 and a follow-up ping, but these are unreliable without tutors. The deck is resilient through incremental advantage but lacks the speed or consistency of a tuned combo build.
