Deck overview

This deck is a synergistic Gruul Landfall strategy led by Hugs, Grisly Guardian. The game plan centers on accelerating mana in the opening turns with efficient land ramp spells such as Nature's Lore and Three Visits. Casting Hugs provides continuous card flow through card exile and grants an extra land drop on each turn. Once a critical mana threshold is reached, the deck deploys high-yield landfall engines including Avenger of Zendikar, Omnath, Locus of Rage, and Scute Swarm. Multiple land drops trigger swarms of large creature tokens, which are rapidly converted into a decisive lethal win using overrun effects like End-Raze Forerunners, power doubling from Unnatural Growth, or extra combat steps from Moraug, Fury of Akoum. While the deck possesses explosive mana velocity and resilient commander recasting, it remains vulnerable to sweepers due to limited defensive spells.
