Deck overview

Smeagol, Helpful Guide pilots a Golgari sacrifice-and-landfall value engine that leverages the Ring tempts mechanic to steal lands from opponents while generating a resilient board of tokens and recursion pieces. The commander is the deck's primary engine: ensuring a creature dies each turn via sacrifice outlets triggers the Ring tempt, which repeatedly exiles lands from opponents' libraries and puts them tapped under your control. This ramps you, disrupts enemy mana, and fuels landfall payoffs like Avenger of Zendikar, Scute Swarm, Rampaging Baloths, and Tireless Provisioner. The ring-bearer mechanic also feeds advantage from cards like Call of the Ring and Mirkwood Bats. Wins come through overwhelming combat from massive token armies or through incremental drain effects from Syr Konrad, the Grim, Bastion of Remembrance, and Mirkwood Bats. No traditional infinite combo is present, but the deck's redundant recursion, land theft, and token generation create formidable inevitability.
