rats by jbbas

Format: Commander

Commander: Splinter, the Mentor and Michelangelo, the Heart

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a Golgari rat-swarm deck built around the partner pair Splinter, the Mentor and Michelangelo, the Heart. The plan is critical-mass aggro: deploy eleven Rat Colony and eleven Relentless Rats, multiply the pack with Marrow-Gnawer, Lord Skitter, Sewer King, Piper of the Swarm, and Plague of Vermin, then pump everything with Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm, Patchwork Banner, Insatiable Frugivore, and Campsite Cuisine for one overwhelming attack. Splinter, the Mentor converts nontoken rats leaving the battlefield into Mutagen artifacts (fuel for +1/+1 counters and artifact-sacrifice value), while Michelangelo, the Heart turns aggression into Food tokens and +1/+1 counters that feed the Food payoffs. The back end is attrition-resistant: Rat King, Verminister reanimates every same-named Rat at once, Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm loops rats out of the graveyard, and The Soul Stone reanimates one creature a turn. No infinite combos - just enormous, evasive trampling rats.
